Podiatric Biomechanics

Podiatric Biomechanics is a really effective form of treatment to correct postural misalignments. One area that is often greatly neglected is poor posture. Poor body mechanics can lead to all sorts of structural problems, which overtime can impede very heavily in our daily lives; often causing severely painful conditions. We commonly seek help from other sources such as a Physiotherapist or Chiropractor but unless the posture is addressed the problem will not go away. Podiatric Biomechanics is a really effective way to resolve these postural problems.

Podiatric Biomechanics is a very dynamic way to putting the body back into balance, both structurally and internally. When posture is tackled directly it can correct all manner of complaints from foot to leg, hip and back problems. The Podiatric Biomechanical approach is holistic; it often eliminates the need for surgery. With this unique approach not only will the posture improve but core stability and balance will be greatly enhanced. From the top of the head down to the tip of the toes, the body will return back to balance.

Computerised Gait Scan

The Podiatrist can evaluate the way that you walk with the aid of advanced computer gait scan technology. This will clearly demonstrate the need for any postural correction using orthoses or postural training, to help restore proper foot function and relieve any discomfort in the back, hips knees or feet. Gait scan is used as an enhancement to aid diagnosis and treatment; it will clearly demonstrate any ground force that can cause impact problem throughout the body.

  1. 1. Scan Feet
The patient will walk across a pressurised mat which has thousands of tiny sensors that capture the distribution of pressure throughout the sole of your foot over time.
  2. 2. Maps foot pressure
This information is then transferred onto the computer screen and is then displayed in 2-D and 3-D visual representations of the pressures under your feet.
  3. 3. Report
This information is then summarized on a report. The report findings help the Podiatrist to determine if your symptoms, that you are experiencing, are due to faulty foot mechanics.
  4. 4. Determine the need for orthotic therapy
The information obtained will help the Podiatrist to determine the need for orthotic therapy. This then aids the lab in manufacturing the best orthotic for your feet.

Orthotics Therapy

Orthotics Therapy, Prescription Orthoses (inserts for your shoes) are a medical grade device made especially for the individual, for each pair of scanned feet. Orthotics Therapy can provide an excellent non-surgical solution for most postural problems.

They are a corrective appliance that fits easily into the shoe to redistribute body weight more evenly and correct any abnormalities in the way that we walk.

Orthotics can be made in a wide range of materials from carbon fibre, EVA to polypropylene and thermoplastics.

Devices can be prescribed by the podiatrist for a very accurate fitting.

Prescription Orthotics can be worn to eliminate:

  • - Localised foot pain
  • - Bunions, hammer toes
  • - Arch/ heel pain
  • - Leg/ knee pain
  • - Hip, back or even neck pain
